The Middle East is an area where automobile is king and fuel is cheap, typically leaving little reward to find more environmentally-friendly ways of moving.
But this year, as demonstrations across the Middle East have actually pressed up the price of oil, the problem of discovering alternative sources of fuel has come into sharp focus.
In an area that has one of the greatest carbon footprints on the planet, one service is making the most of the growing pressure to find alternatives to oil. It’s set up the Middle East’s very first scheme to recycle cooking oil into biodiesel. It’s showing lucrative too, currently their client-list consists of McDonald’s.
